This is a compelling map for new leaders. Self-confidence and empathy must be developed together in order to bring the best out of your team. I thought self-confidence came first, empathy second. Thus, the years I led as a “dictator” are those that I regret the most in my career. It was only when people were courageous enough to tell me about the stressful environment I created, that I dug deeper to develop and exercise the empathy that is critical to a productive, engaged and empowered team. And those were the years I enjoyed the most.
